On Making Work

I make paintings and drawings that explore struggle, dignity, love, self-worth, and the search for beauty in everyday life.

Working in oil, charcoal, pencil, and handmade walnut ink, I am drawn to materials that feel honest, expressive, and connected to the traditions of the Old Masters.

My pen and ink drawings often use warm brown washes, red highlights, chalk, and toned paper to create figurative images with a classical feeling. Some are whimsical, with figures on stilts or animals placed in narrative situations, but beneath the playfulness I am often addressing challenge, resilience, and overcoming adversity.

In my oil paintings, I move between portraits, landscapes, and narrative scenes, using color, underpainting, and composition to search for emotional weight and connection.

I create because I have to. Art helps me process depression, hope, faith, joy, and the need to find meaning in daily life. I want my work to carry feeling without needing to explain everything. My hope is that viewers can enter the image, connect it to their own story, and find something beautiful, truthful, or encouraging there.
